We first met the two main characters of the story, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, in the first novel called Twilight.

This is where we discovered that Edward and his family are all vampires.

They live differently to the regular vampires as they want to mix with everyday people. They have therefore chosen not to feed on human blood.

When Bella and Eward meet it doesn't take them too long to realize that they have real feelings for each other.

After the big showdown at the end of the first book, Edward and Bella confirm their love and need for each other.

At the beginning of New Moon, we see that Edward is very uncomfortable about the danger that Bella finds herself in due to the simple fact that they are together as a couple.

He makes the decision to break up with her and disappear from her life. He leaves her completely distraught and she withdraws from the world. She can not eat or speak and has nightmares all the time.

which is a few miles away from the town of Forks. We met him briefly in the first book of the collection but this time he plays a much greater part of the story.

He is the one who helps Bella back to reality and helps her to try and get on with her life without Edward. He falls in love with Bella and although he knows that these feelings aren’t reciprocated, he will not give up trying to win her love.

Jacob has his own secrets and we soon discover that he is actually a shape shifter. This brings another facet to the whole fantasy story.
